Moses Was Too Ashamed to Go Home

Moses Was Too Ashamed to Go Home
When Moses left Oyugis in Homa Bay County for Nairobi, he had one goal: to join university and build a better future.
His parents were happy. Like many parents watching their child leave home with ambition, they believed he was taking the first steps towards a brighter future.
But things did not turn out as planned.
According to Moses, an encounter with someone he met in town became a turning point in his life. He lost his belongings and his sense of direction, and his circumstances deteriorated. As the difficulties mounted, he struggled with his mental health and found himself living on the streets.
Going home should have been an option. But Moses felt ashamed. He did not know how to face his parents or explain how far his life had moved from the future they had imagined for him.
So he stayed away.
Sometimes, it is not only hardship that keeps someone from going home. It is the fear of facing the people they left behind with so much hope.
Today, Moses is safe, but his recovery is only beginning. He needs rehabilitation, counselling, and the support to work through what he has experienced and rebuild his life.
The young man who left Oyugis hoping to join university deserves the chance to recover, reconnect with his family, and consider what comes next.
Helping Moses means more than getting him off the streets. It means helping him access the care he needs so that going home can become a possibility again.
