For Mark, losing his mother meant losing the person he associated with home, comfort, and family. It was a loss that deeply affected him, and life became increasingly difficult in the years that followed.
He also ran a small mitumba business, which gave him a source of income, something to work towards, and a sense of purpose. But when the business collapsed, another important part of his life fell away.
The weight of these experiences became overwhelming. Last year, Mark attempted to take his own life. He survived, but the emotional pain that had brought him to that point did not simply disappear.
When we found him, Mark was deeply distressed. He had withdrawn from life and no longer wanted to meet or speak with members of his family.
His situation made one thing clear: getting Mark off the streets was only the first step. He needs more than food, clothing, and somewhere to sleep. He needs professional counselling, rehabilitation, continued care, and a safe environment where he can begin working through what he has experienced.
We believe Mark deserves the opportunity to recover and rebuild his life. His past does not have to determine what comes next.
